I’m Lunna, and I am a young person who was invited to the launch of the London Youths Born Ambitious network through working with YUAF. London Youth is a charity that helps services like youth organisations so young people have the opportunities they need in life.
The launch of the London Youth’s Born Ambitious network was eye-opening and refreshing. This was an event for ambassadors to come together and see how their contribution helps towards maximising the opportunities in life for the youth. From the bites and drinks, to the dancing, to HRH’s speech, it told me how important it was for the youth to understand their potential, and take advantage of it. The event was hosted in the SalesForce Tower with lots of people, (such as ambassadors, athletes, trustees etc).
I decided to go around and talk to a variety of people, which made it easy to network and gather different perspectives. I got a lot of advice that evening. To be specific, it was advice telling me to understand I have control of my life and that charities like London Youth help people like me become the best version of myself. I thought about the different pathways I could go down in life, and how I feel like I can't limit myself to just one job - I would love to do many things! The event made me feel like that was possible. Through networking, I found out what a trustee is; this is very important for me because YUAF has trustees, and it’s important to understand how foundations and services that help the youth have come along.
In my opinion, the most interesting part of the event was the performances. I loved seeing the video which included statements from people who are involved with London Youth. It inspired me, because those people were just like me, wondering what they’re going to do after secondary school. It was nice to hear their experiences and hear how they view London Youth. Also, i loved this event because I have never taken part in an event like this. Just the fact that i was over 20 floors up in the building was mind-blowing to me!
